Dr. Macaulay is interested in mitigating crew health and safety risks with respect to the sensorimotor and vestibular adaptations that occur during and after spaceflight. These changes in sensorimotor/vestibular function result primarily from altered gravity environments and manifest in motion sickness, spatial disorientation and deficits in postural control, locomotion and manual and fine motor control. His research aims to optimize crew performance during critical mission tasks such as manual/vehicle control, extravehicular activities and emergency egress.
