PROFESSIONAL INTERESTS

Dr. Emily Lundstrom’s research focuses on optimizing athlete health, training adaptations and performance through comprehensive research in exercise physiology, with a particular emphasis on elite endurance athletes. Her work investigates the intricate relationships between energy availability, metabolic/endocrine function, stress and sport performance, utilizing cutting-edge technologies, comprehensive physiological assessments and multidisciplinary approaches. Dr. Lundstrom explores critical internal and external factors such as nutrition, sleep quality, psychological and psychosocial markers to develop personalized strategies that enhance athletic performance while safeguarding athlete well-being, with a specialized interest on sex-differences in health and performance responses that contribute to the unique challenges faced by female athletes. Dr. Lundstrom’s research aims to advance our understanding of athlete monitoring, training periodization and performance enhancement with the ultimate goal to bridge the gap between scientific findings and practical applications, while providing actionable insights for sport scientists, coaches, athletes and other sports performance professionals.
