FACULTY
Steven Garcia, PhD
Assistant Professor of Clinical Physical Therapy
1540 Alcazar Street CHP 155
Los Angeles, CA 90089
Dr. Garcia’s research focuses on mitigating the development of knee osteoarthritis (OA) in individuals following joint injury as well as other at-risk populations. Specifically, his work focuses on understanding how joint loading during activities of daily living and muscular strength and function influence articular cartilage adaptability. Dr. Garcia’s research emphasizes interdisciplinary methodologies with strong clinical translatability through leveraging biomechanics (e.g., 3D motion capture, dynamometry, electromyography, etc.), neuromuscular physiology (i.e., peripheral nerve, muscular stimulation, blood biomarker analyses) and musculoskeletal imaging (i.e., ultrasonography, DEXA). Overall, the goals of his work are aimed at identifying unique OA risk factors and targets for interventions with the goal of reducing and/or preventing the development of knee OA.
