Professional Interests

Sean Johnson is a Physical Therapist and Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach in his second season with the Los Angeles Angels Major League Baseball Team as a Physical Therapist and AssistantStrength and Conditioning Coach. In this role Sean facilitates continuity between Athletic Medicine and Strength and Conditioning for the Angel Players. Prior to joining the Angels Sean practiced at USC Physical Therapy Associates at University Park Campus; a Faculty Practice within the Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy at the University of Southern California. He also taught within the Entry-level Physical Therapy Program at USC for 6 years.

 

Sean has taught continuing education throughout the duration of his career. He currently serves as one of the primary instructors within the Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy's Orthopedic Physical Therapy Boot Camp. In this capacity he leads classes related to the management of the patient with Shoulder pathology, Hand/Wrist and Elbow pathology and Thoracic Pathology.In addition to USC continuing education, Sean has had the opportunity to teach in other countries throughout the world. In 2014 and 2016 Sean taught as clinic faculty at the Kenya Medical Training College Higher Diploma Program. He taught physiotherapists in the evaluation and treatment of low back pain in Nairobi, Kenya who were working towards their advance physical therapy diploma. He continues to serve as a mentor within the Orthopedic and Sports Residency programs for the Division of Physical Therapy at USC.

 

He received his Bachelor of Science as well as a Bachelor of Exercise Science at the University of Sioux Falls. Sean played college football at the University of Sioux Falls where he was an outside linebacker for the University. He received his clinical doctorate degree in physical therapy at the University of Southern California and went onto complete an Orthopedic Residency at USC receiving an Orthopedic Certificate in Physical Therapy.

 

He is board certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist. He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. In addition, he is member of the Orthopedic Section and Sport Section of the American Physical Therapy Association.

 

Sean is highly involved within the California Physical Therapy Association and just recently completed a three-year term as a Director on the California Physical Therapy Association's Board of Directors.
