Interprofessional Geriatric Curriculum Team Honored

IPGC

USC's Interprofessional Geriatric Curriculum (IPGC) team was honored by Civic Engagement for their commitment to collaboration and community engagement.

Associate Chair and Associate Professor of Clinical Physical Therapy Dr. Cheryl Resnik is the Division's representative to the interprofessional group.

The objective of the IPGC is to provide an interdisciplinary geriatric experience for teams of USC inter-professional students from medicine, dentistry, occupational therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, social work, and physician assistants.

Students from each program work in inter-professional teams of 6-7 students to consult with an older adult resident at a community based senior housing facility. Collaboration among professional students from each of the programs is key to the success of the program.

"We're reaching out to some of our most vulnerable citizens here," said Resnik, director of community outreach for the Division. "These students' service to the community gives them an education nearly as vital as the techniques of working together to optimize people's health."
