Service Awards

  • Outstanding Service to the Community (Graduating Class) †
    Purpose: To honor and acknowledge a graduating Entry-level DPT student who has volunteered their time and talent to provide service to others and the community with a selfless zeal.


    Eligibility/Criteria - The individual must:

    1. Demonstrate generosity with their time and talent by participating in community service activities within or outside of the physical therapy profession.

    2. Demonstrate leadership in organizing peers to volunteer for community service or altruistic activities.

    3. Identify community needs that can be met by the physical therapy student body.

    Procedure for Nomination:

    1. Class representatives will solicit nominations from the graduating class by March 15th. The Awards committee will provide ballots with the criteria.

    2. Nominated candidates will be presented to the full faculty for selection at the last faculty meeting in March.

    Kathleen Bice Award for Service to the Profession of Physical Therapy (Graduating Class) †
    Purpose: To honor and acknowledge a graduating Entry-level DPT student who has volunteered their time and talent to provide service to others and the community with a selfless zeal.

    Eligibility/Criteria - The individual must:

    1. Demonstrate enthusiasm and zeal for the physical therapy profession as demonstrated by volunteer activity within physical therapy profession.

    2. Demonstrate active involvement in the student organization within the APTA and/or student organization within USC and the Division.

    3. Demonstrate active participation at local, state or national levels of the profession.

    4. Be a forward-thinker in elevating the standard of our profession.

    Procedure for Nomination:

    1. Class representatives will solicit nominations from the graduating class by March 15th. The Awards committee will provide ballots with the criteria.

    2. Nominated candidates will be presented to the full faculty for selection at the last faculty meeting in March.


    Josette Antonelli Divisional Service Scholarship (DPTIII) ‡
    Purpose: To honor and acknowledge an entry-level DPT student preparing to enter the 3rd year of the program who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership and service to the Division or community.

    Eligibility/Criteria - The individual must:

    1. Demonstrate characteristics found in Mrs. Antonelli; including an unfailing and generous commitment to the service of others and a flair for leadership in accomplishing tasks.

    2. Demonstrate zeal for assisting others as evidenced by extraordinary service activities within the Division or community.

    3. Be recognized as a leader by faculty and classmates as demonstrated by advocacy for student concerns.

    4. Be a forward-thinker in elevating the standard of our profession.

    Procedure for Nomination:

    1. The Awards committee will solicit nominations from the faculty and staff.

    2. Eligible candidates will be presented to the full faculty for selection at the last faculty meeting in July.

    Divisional Tribute†
    Purpose: To honor and acknowledge individuals who have provided extraordinary service to the Division.

    Eligibility/Criteria - The individual must:
    Have made a singular, and unique contribution to the well being of the Division. These
    contributions could be efforts, which have furthered Divisional missions in education,
    research, or philanthropic endeavors or the physical or financial status of the Division.

    Procedure for Nomination:

    1. Nominations will be solicited from the faculty and staff at the first faculty meeting in February.

    2. The Chair in consultation with the Awards committee will review the recommendations and will determine the recipient by the end of February.
