Christopher Powers, Ph.D., P.T., is the principal investigator for ACL Project Prevent. Dr. Powers is an Associate Professor of Biokinesiology and Co-Director of the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Research Laboratory at the University of Southern California . Dr. Powers has over 10 years of research experience studying the kinematics, kinetics and muscular actions associated with the pathomechanics of orthopedic injuries. Dr. Powers has an expertise in knee joint biomechanics.
George Salem, Ph.D., is a co-investigator for ACL Project Prevent. Dr. Salem is an Associate Professor of Biokinesiology and Co-Director of the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Research Laboratory at the University of Southern California . Dr. Salem has expertise in the area of resistance exercise biomechanics and has been studying musculoskeletal adaptations in response to resistance exercise for the last 10 years.
Michael Goran, Ph.D., is a co-investigator for ACL Project Prevent. Dr. Goran is a Professor of Preventive Medicine and Physiology and Biophysics as well as an Associate Director of the Institute for Prevention Research at the University of Southern California , Keck School of Medicine. Dr. Goran is a recognized authority in the area of disease prevention through exercise (particularly children and adolescents), and is an expert in the physiological aspects of growth and development.
Christine Pollard, Ph.D., P.T., is a project coordinator for ACL Project Prevent. Dr. Pollard is an Assistant Professor of Research Physical Therapy at the University of Southern California and has been examining mechanisms of ACL injuries for the past 6 years. In particular, Dr. Pollard has investigated gender differences in lower extremity mechanics and coordination during sport specific activities.
Susan Sigward, Ph.D., P.T., A.T.C., is a project coordinator for ACL Project Prevent. Dr. Sigward is an Assistant Professor of Research Physical Therapy at the University of Southern California . Her research has focused on examining mechanisms of ACL injuries for the past 6 years. In particular, Dr. Sigward has investigated the effects of participating in an ACL injury prevention program on lower extremity mechanics during sport specific activities.
Santa Monica Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Group (SMOG)
Bert Mandelbaum, M.D., is a consultant for ACL Project Prevent. Dr. Mandelbaum is an orthopaedic surgeon in private practice with SMOG and is Director of the SMOG research foundation. Dr. Mandelbaum is the Assistant Medical Director for Major League Soccer and is an expert in adult sports injuries. He and his group developed the training regime, Prevent Injury and Improve Performance, that will be used in ACL Project Prevent.
Holly Silvers, P.T., is the Santa Monica Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Research Project Coordinator. Holly is also a physical therapist that practices in an orthopaedic clinic. She has had an integral role in designing and implementing the Prevent Injury and Improve Performance (PEP) program.
University of North Carolina
Stephen Marshall, Ph.D., is a consultant for ACL Project Prevent. Dr. Marshall is an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . He has over 15 years of experience as a consulting statistician and has been involved in sports injury research for the past 10 years.
Competitive Athlete Training Zone (CATZ)
Jim Liston, M.Ed., C.S.C.S., is the training coordinator for ACL Project Prevent and is a founder of CATZ. He has designed training programs for professional and elite amateur athletes in sports such as soccer, basketball, and volleyball. Jim has served as the head strength and conditioning coach for the Los Angeles Galaxy and the U20 US National Soccer Team. In addition, he has trained players from the US Men's and Women's National Soccer Team.
Kevin Wentz, P.T., C.S.C.S., is a trainer for ACL Project Prevent, a founder of CATZ, and a physical therapist. Kevin has served as the head physical therapist for the Los Angeles Galaxy and has almost 20 years experience focusing on sports performance training. He is also the Director of Physical Therapy for Professional Orthopedic and Sports Care in Pasadena , CA .
Karen Corriveau, P.T., C.S.C.S., is a trainer for ACL Project Prevent and a physical therapist with 8 years experience treating orthopedic and sports injuries. She has a remarkable ability to treat and train youth athletes from every sport.
Amado Garcia, P.T., C.S.C.S., is a trainer for ACL Project Prevent and a physical therapist who has been involved in rehabilitation and sports performance training for 10 years. In his practice, Amado has rehabilitated hundreds of athletes ranging from elementary school age to the professional/elite level.
