The purpose of this website is to highlight a 3-year study funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The primary objective of this investigation is to identify gender specific movement patterns that may predispose female athletes to anterior cruciate ligament
(ACL) injuries during sport activities. In addition, this study will evaluate the effects of an injury prevention program on altering potentially injurious lower extremity mechanics.
This project represents a collaborative effort between several institutions including the University of Southern California (Divisions of Biokinesiology & Physical Therapy and Preventive Medicine); University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
(Division of Epidemiology); Santa Monica Orthopaedic Group (Santa Monica , CA); and the Competitive Athlete Training Zone (Pasadena , CA).
